Kraków

This is possibly the hardest page i’ve had to think about what images to post up. Is it ok to post up images from Auschwitz - Birkenau? Will it offend? My conclusion is we shouldn’t hide away from the past. We shouldn’t let it drift away in the midst of time. I would love to say we have learnt the lessons of the past but mankind seems content to keep bombing and killing innocents in the name of power.

Anyway enough of my thoughts. Kraków is a lovely city to visit. It’s full of old and new architecture. It has a story to tell with every corner you turn. Highlights are the Rynek Główny square and Wawel Castle. A boat trip along the Vistula River is well worth an hour or so of your time. Wanting to take in a bit of the cafe scene? If so, Kazimierz district is the place to go with narrow streets, small squares and plenty places to eat and drink in a chilled hippy-like environment. A changed feel from the dark, dark days of WW2.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is awe inspiring and you can’t fail to be impressed by the underground chapels, chandeliers, statues and even a lake. The workmanship of the local miners and craftsmen will take your breath away.

I’ll finish off by saying that Kraków should be on everyone’s bucket list of places to see but more importantly, everyone at some point in their life should visit Auschwitz - Birkenau. It will bring out emotions i have never felt before and should act as a reminder to us all that humanity can be better. We all have a voice to make things brighter for others.
